Final Copa del Rey Barcelona Dipastikan Tanpa Luis Suarez
Barcelona got a heavy blow with
injuries suffered by their flagship bomber, Luis Suarez at the end of this
season, at the same time ahead of the Copa del Rey final.
Through their official website,
Barcelona announced that Suarez had a medial meniscus injury in his right knee.
Suarez underwent arthroscopic
surgery by knee specialist Ramon Cugat with supervision from Barcelona medical
staff on Thursday (9/5) local time.
The results of this knee surgery as
well as the estimation of how long Suarez must be absent will be announced by
Barcelona as soon as the operation is completed
Suarez had problems with his knee
for most of the season. This time the operation will make it in top condition
next season.
The news of Suarez's injury was
somewhat surprising because he played the full 90 minutes without any problems
in the counter host Liverpool match on Wednesday (8/5) early yesterday.
This operation made Suarez's season
over. The 32-year-old will miss the Copa del Rey final against Valencia on May
26.
Not only that, Suarez is now
doubtful to be able to strengthen Uruguay on the Copa America stage next
summer.
Suarez's performance
This season Suarez returned to
appear quite impressive by scoring a total of 24 goals in 49 matches. Suarez
played a major role in leading Barca to La Liga champions this season.
After being sidelined to score on
the European stage since last season, Suarez again listed his name on the
scoreboard when breaking into the former club's goal, Liverpool in the
Champions League semi-final first leg.
Unfortunately Barca dramatically
failed to step into the final after being hit back by Liverpool with a 4-3
aggregate score.
